UK coronavirus LIVE: Nicola Sturgeon condemns SNP MP Margaret Ferrier for travelling to London with Covid-19 as indoor socialising ban rolled out across north England

Nicola Sturgeon has condemned SNP MP Margaret Ferrier after she admitted to travelling to and from London while suffering from Covid-19.

The Rutherglen & Hamilton West MP has been suspended from the party after issuing a statement on Thursday apologising for the breach of coronavirus restrictions.

Mrs Sturgeon described her actions as "utterly indefensible". It came as Liverpool, Warrington, Hartlepool and Middlesbrough become the latest areas subjected to local coronavirus lockdowns .

Experts said London could avoid the same curbs if residents worked together to follow social distancing guidelines.
