The brief relaxation of coronavirus measures could last four or five days, starting from December 24. However, households across the country are reportedly facing a ban on mixing if lockdown ends as scheduled on December 2, in a bid to allow increased social interaction over Christmas.
On Wednesday the Business Secretary Alok Sharma said existing curbs were starting to work in the battle against Covid-19, as London business leaders appealed for the capital to be allowed to recover after restrictions are lifted.
It came as new results from Pfizer and BioNTech suggested the companies’ coronavirus vaccine was 94 per cent effective in adults aged over-65.
In Westminster, Boris Johnson made history by attending PMQs remotely after being told to self-isolate by NHS Test and Trace.
