More than 35,000 extra NHS staff are to join the UK's battle against coronavirus, as the government revealed plans to open a new hospital and recruit 250,000 volunteers.
Health Secretary Matt Hancock announced the fresh moves in a Downing Street press conference this afternoon, just moments after the country's death toll leapt to 422.
Mr Hancock also addressed calls for construction sites to close, saying they would remain open as long as workers kept two metres apart.
It comes as pressure mounts on the government to provide financial support for self-employed workers, which Chancellor Rishi Sunak acknowledged was an "incredibly complicated" task.
