UK coronavirus LIVE: UK sees biggest 24-hour spike in cases as WHO warns fighting epidemic must become world's 'highest priority'

All countries must view coronavirus as their "highest priority," the World Health Organisation has announced, as the number of confirmed cases across the world surpassed 100,000.

In the UK, the number of people known to be infected with Covid-19 jumped by 49 in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases to 164.

It comes after Britain moved into phase two of its epidemic battle plan on Thursday and the country confirmed its second death from the virus on Friday evening.

The respiratory disease has now infected more than 100,000 people worldwide with more than 3,300 fatalities.
