Sir Keir Starmer said it is a "national scandal" that UK does not have a working testing system as he delivered scathing criticism of the Government's pandemic response.
Speaking during a televised speech, the Labour leader said: "People shouldn’t have to travel hundreds of miles to get a test for their child, for themselves or for their relatives.”
It comes as the Budget was scrapped with Rishi Sunak announcing he would outline measures "to protect jobs" this winter in the Commons tomorrow.
Meanwhile, an exclusive poll for the Evening Standard found that support from the public over the Government's Covid-19 strategy had fallen.
