The chief medical officer for England has said the country is not “consistently” past the peak of coronavirus deaths.
Professor Chris Whitty said "the trend overall is a gradual decline" but added: "We’re definitely not consistently past the peak across the whole country at this point in time."
It comes after Boris Johnson said the UK is "beginning to turn the tide" against the coronavirus pandemic as the death toll among Covid-19 hospital patients increased by its lowest amount since the end of March.
The UK death toll in hospitals jumped by 360 as of 5pm on Sunday, Matt Hancock said at the Downing Street press briefing.
