UK coronavirus LIVE: Death toll up by 36 in lowest rise since lockdown began as Boris Johnson launches review of two-metre rule

The UK's official death toll has risen by 36 , the lowest figure since lockdown began.

According to Government figures, the total number of fatalities across hospitals, care homes and other settings now stands at 41,698. The death toll rose by 35 on March 21, the day the UK went into lockdown.

It came as Boris Johnson ordered a comprehensive review of the two-metre social-distancing rule amid calls it should be scrapped to allow businesses to re-open sustainably.

Chancellor Rishi Sunak said changing the rule could have a "positive impact" on premises and that the decision was "ultimately" for ministers, rather than scientists. Chief Medical Officer Chris Whitty has said it is "essential" to maintain the rule throughout the pandemic.
