UK coronavirus hospital death toll figure rises to 30,736 as 183 more die

The UK's official coronavirus hospital death toll has risen to 30,736 after 183 were reported in 24 hours.

The latest figures were issued this afternoon, and count the hospital toll only.

England reported 146 new deaths, Scotland had 22, Wales recorded 14 and Northern Ireland had one.

The full figures from across all settings, including care homes, will be released in this evening's daily Downing Street Covid-19 news briefing.

Saturday's daily rise of 183 is up from 177 on Friday, but down from 213 on Thursday and 209 on Wednesday.

It is also UP/DOWN from last Sunday's rise of 164 on May 24 and114  on May 17.

The daily rise compares to recent Sunday totals of 205 on May 10, 358 on May 3, 373 on April 26, 534 on April 19 and 710 on April 12.

The official figures for Saturday, May 30 remain eclipsed by the UK's true death toll.

The true figure, collated by the Office for National Statistics, is more than 47,300 based on death certificates from England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

The latest grim figures were issued on a sunny weekend, as heatwave weather across the UK saw crowds flock to beaches, parks and beautyspots ahead of lockdown being eased.

While many people seemed to be keeping their distance, large groups have been pictured gathering in the sunshine despite lockdown rules remaining unchanged until Monday.

Boris Johnson  announced on Thursday that from Monday groups of six people can meet outside - but must keep two metres distance from members of different households.

The lockdown rule changes also comes as some schools reopening on Monday, while retailers will wait until mid-June to be allowed to reopen shops.

Reception, Year One and Year Six pupils will be allowed back in class from Monday, although some councils are still refusing to open schools just yet.
