UK coronavirus deaths rise by 48 in latest update

The number of people who have died after testing positive for coronavirus has risen by a further 48.

The latest update from the government takes the official total of Covid-19 deaths to 44, 650.

Today's update showed that there have been a further 512 coronavirus cases recorded in the past 24 hours as well.

Earlier today NHS England confirmed that said 22 people had died at hospitals across England.

A spokesperson said: "A further 22 people, who tested positive for the Coronavirus (Covid-19) have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 29,013.

"Patients were aged between 52 and 99 years old. All patients had known underlying health conditions.

"Their families have been informed."

Once again there were zero further deaths in hospital Trusts covering Merseyside.

The death totals remain as follows:

St Helens and Knowsley Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust - 207

The Walton Centre NHS Foundation Trust - 10

Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust - 238

Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust - 135
