UK coronavirus deaths rise by 231 with more than 5,700 new cases recorded

The UK has recorded a further 231 deaths from coronavirus.

The Government also recorded another 5,766 cases.

This is a increase from Monday. However, new deaths and cases remain down compared to this time last week.

It comes as a child aged 11 was among 164 hospital Covid deaths in England.

This brought the total number of confirmed deaths reported in hospitals to 84,631, NHS England said on Tuesday.

Patients were aged between 11 and 100.

All except eight, aged between 49 and 87, had known underlying health conditions.

The deaths were between December 20 and March 8, with the majority being on or after March 4.

There were 34 other deaths reported with no positive Covid-19 test result.

Meanwhile a further 215,273 first vaccine doses were given on Tuesday.

So far 22,592,528 first doses have been given in the UK.

However, only 38,788 second doses of the vaccine were given. Second doses continue to lag far behind - with just 1,181,431 people fully vaccinated in the UK.
