UK coronavirus death toll rises to 759, government figures reveal

A total of 759 people have now died in the UK after testing positive for coronavirus.

The number of cases rose by 181 since 5pm on March 25.

The patients were aged between 29 and 98 years old and all but four – aged between 82 and 91 – had underlying health conditions. Their families have been informed.

The Department of Health added the number of people who had tested positive for Covid-19 was now 14,579 as of 9am on Friday, up from 11,658 at the same point on Thursday.

A total of 113,777 people have been tested with 99,198 testing negative.

The figures come as it was confirmed that Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Health Secretary Matt Hancock have both tested positive for Covid-19.

Downing Street is insisting that Mr Johnson will continue working as normal despite having the virus , and will use video-conferencing to talk with colleagues as he goes into isolation for seven days.

Prince Charles has also been diagnosed with the virus after being tested in Scotland.
