UK coronavirus death toll rises by 149

The number of people who have died after testing positive for coronavirus has now reached 43,230.

The figure is up by 149 from the day before at 43,081, and includes people that have died in hospitals, care homes and the wider community.

The Department of Health said: "As of 9am 25 June, there have been 8,710,292 tests, with 167,023 tests on 24 June. 307,980 people have tested positive.

"As of 5pm on 24 June, of those tested positive for coronavirus, across all settings, 43,230 have sadly died."

The latest figures come as the rate of spread of the coronavirus infection across the UK – the growth rate – remains at minus 4% to minus 2% per day.

While the reproduction number, referred to as R, remains at 0.7 to 0.9.

The figures are unchanged from when they were published by the Government Office for Science and the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies on Friday.

It has also been revealed that in NHS Test and Trace figures that 24% of people (5,062) who tested positive for Covid-19 during the three-week period and who had been transferred to the tracing system were not reached.

This number includes people who the service was unable to reach because there had been no response to text, email and call reminders. It also includes people who were reached but declined to give details of close contacts.

A further 3% of people (681) could not be reached because their communication details had not been provided.
