UK coronavirus death toll increases to 69 as 14 more people die

A further 14 people in the UK have died after testing positive for coronavirus over the past 24 hours - bringing the total deaths to 69.

The Department of Health and Social Care announced on Tuesday that 407 people across the country have tested positive for the bug in the last day.

Figures show that 1,950 patients have been diagnosed with the deadly virus in the UK since its outbreak earlier this year.

More than 50,000 people have now been tested for Covid-19, which has killed more than 7,500 people worldwide.

A second person to die from the coronavirus in Scotland was confirmed by the Scottish Government earlier today.

The victim was an elderly patient with underlying health conditions and was being treated in the Greater Glasgow and Clyde area.

The total number of positive cases in Scotland currently stands at 195.
