The number of coronavirus cases in the UK has risen by 3,899 with the tragic death toll increasing by 18.
After the Government updated its latest figures on Sunday, the total number of Covid-19 cases in the UK reached 394, 257 and the death toll reached 41,777.
Last Sunday, September 13, the number of cases soared by 3,330 and it was the highest Sunday rise since mid May.
And on the previous Sunday, September 6, the UK recorded 2,988 new coronavirus cases over a 24 hour period.
Yesterday, a further 4,422 coronavirus infections were recorded in the UK - the highest number of daily cases recorded since May 8.
The death count on Saturday increased by 27, reaching a tragic total of 41,759.
It was the highest daily death count since August 8 when 55 UK deaths by coronavirus were reported.
The number of hospital patients to die after contracting coronavirus has on Sunday risen by 12.
Health authorities confirmed there had been 12 fatalities in England, but none in Scotland or Wales.
Figures for Northern Ireland have not been released yet.
Victims were aged between 62 and 98, and all had known health conditions, NHS England said.
The tragic figure was released hours after Health Secretary Matt Hancock said the UK is at a "tipping point", with the number of new infections rising fast.
Boris Johnson has previously warned that a second wave is inevitable.
This morning Mr Hancock told the Andrew Marr Show: "This country faces a tipping point, and we have a choice, and the choice is if everybody follows the rules and does the self-isolation if they need to, follows the rule of six, which is really simple and clear, and the basics, hands, face and space, then we can avoid further measures.
"But the alternative to that choice is that we will have to bring in more action.
"And we don’t want to do that, but every single person has a part to play in this and everybody watching has a choice: do you follow the rules or not?"
Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham has called on the Government to reconvene Cobra as a matter of urgency, with places for all the English regions.
He said more focus on the needs of northern communities and businesses was needed, with large parts of the North of England under local restrictions and a "north-south divide" on access to testing.
He said: "I am today calling on the Prime Minister to give a place for all of the English regions on a reconvened Cobra, alongside London, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
"The North of England is experiencing the highest number of cases but also the greatest difficulty in accessing tests.
"This north-south testing divide can't be right and is exactly the kind of issue that a reconvened Cobra needs to resolve. The North needs to be levelled up on testing without delay."
