UK chip shop opening branch in China after being flooded with tourists from country

A chip shop in Yorkshire has become such a hit with Chinese tourists the owner is opening a branch there.

Scotts Fish and Chips often gets more than 100 visitors a week from the Asian country.

Now boss Tony Webster has agreed a deal with Chinese businessmen to open a replica in the city of Chengdu.

Mr Webster said: “If all goes to plan, Chinese tourists could be tucking into fish and chips at Scotts, in North Yorkshire, while Western tourists could be enjoying fish and chips in southern China.”

Manager Roxy Vasai said: “We are very impressed by the Chinese tourists. They are very friendly, smiley and happy. We have fun, we make them feel welcome.

She said they often pose for selfies with their Chinese fans and have tried to learn “a little bit” of Mandarin so they can reply ‘thank you’ and ‘bye bye’.

She added: “We look out for a coach and when they’re coming we shout ‘they’re here, there are 20, 30, 40, let’s make it ready for them’.
