UK Athletics still hopeful over London Stadium agreement with West Ham for Anniversary Games

UK Athletics are hopeful they can reach a deal with West Ham for use of the London Stadium to ensure the Anniversary Games goes ahead in July.

The Games are due to take place on July 4-5, but West Ham have priority over the stadium use should the Premier League have resumed under the “overriding priority principle”.

But new UKA chief executive Joanna Coates said: “We still want to continue conversations to see whether or not it is possible that we can have all our events.

"The Premier League haven’t said when their season may restart, so while there’s hope we don’t want to walk away.”

Coates said no talks had been held with West Ham but instead with the London Legacy Development Corporation, with whom UKA have their contract for the stadium’s summer use.

And she warned no games would prove costly: “If we don’t have the Anniversary Games in July that is not good because that’s a big income generator for us.”
