A controversial British aristocrat has made waves after launching a bid to find a wife who is 20 years his junior and who meets a range of oddly specific requirements.
79-year-old Sir Benjamin Slade, a baron, businessman and descendant of Charles II, said in a public listing that he was in search of a woman under 60 years old to bear his children.
In exchange, Slade is offering £50,000 ($101k AUD) each year to the (un)lucky lady to assist in running his sprawling estate in Somerset.

While that might sound like an enticing trade-off, the list of prerequisites might turn off a bunch of Slade’s would-be suitors, especially since he demanded someone who is a “good breeder”. Yep, I wish I was kidding.
In an totally charming call-out, Slade said, “You always have a lady of the house, women run houses. People think that it is sexist …They run the staff and they have an eye for it,” per The Mirror.
Taking picky to a whole other level, the man whose Tinder profile is probably flagged said his bride should not be a Scorpio, should not use drugs or be an alcoholic, should not be from a country beginning with the letter ‘I’, and should not get her news from The Guardian.
Those last two make about as much sense as the concept of the aristocracy, but I digress.
Elsewhere in his message, Slade said the preferred candidates will have a helicopter, shotgun, and drivers licence (that’s a long line at the RTA), and added that “legal and accountancy training would be useful”.
“Must be able to breed two sons (don’t mind if she has bred before and is proven),” the call-out continued. “A little private capital and income would be helpful. A large fortune would be more helpful!”.

As for why he’s seeking a younger wife, well, it’s for the very romantic reason of tax benefits.
“Death tax is 40 per cent and the only way I can pass the estate and art collection etc on is to leave it to the wife tax free, who then disposes it to my distant relatives,” Slade said.
“Obviously she has to live for seven years. She would also have to be insured, that’s why we need a lady at least 20 years younger than me as I cannot insure an older wife so the younger the better,” he added.

Slade already has a daughter, Violet, with entrepreneur and former child author Sahara Sunday Spain, but is seeking a wife to bear a son to continue his paternal ancestry. Just what we need, more sons of fathers with questionable values! Yippee!
Slade’s quest has so far turned up no results, and I’m half-inclined to have Slade sign up for The Golden Bachelor. Then again, no contestant should have to endure being called a “breeder”. I guess the Baron might be barren for some time!
