Ugly scenes as football supporters are seen involved in brawl ahead of FAI Cup final in Dublin

There were ugly scenes ahead of the FAI Cup final as groups of Shelbourne and Derry City fans clashed near the Aviva Stadium.

In videos circulating widely on social media, a number of fans are seen throwing flares and objects at each other across the street.

Supporters are also captured fighting on the pavements of a street, as Gardai try to intervene to stop the violence taking place in the Ringsend area of Dublin.

A flare is also seen hitting a Garda van, with tensions appearing to boil over between sections of the supporters.

It comes ahead of the FAI Cup final between Shelbourne and Derry City at the Aviva Stadium, with over 30,000 people set to attend the match.

A similar incident occurred in the buildup to last year's FAI Cup final when a group of St Patrick's Athletic fans were attacked in Ringsend.

In a statement to the Irish Mirror, An Garda Síochana clarified their position on the matter.

It read: "Gardaí in Donnybrook dealt with a small number of incidents today, Sunday 13th November, 2022 at the Aviva Stadium.

"A total of 8 males were arrested, 7 of which were arrested for Public Order offences and were dealt with by adult caution.

"One male was arrested in relation to an offence under Section 68 of the Criminal Justice Act, 2006 and has been charged and will appear before Court at a later date."
