'Ugly' fruit and vegetables: share your images

fruit vegetables supermarkets waste
Retailers respond to consumer demands by imposing standards that can lead to much of the crop being wasted, the report shows Photograph: Karl-Josef Hildenbrand/dpa/Corbis

Up to two-fifths of a crop of fruit or vegetables are rejected because they are "ugly", a report on food waste has shown. Produce that doesn't meet retailer, and therefore consumer, standards on shape and size is rejected and used for animal feed or ploughed back into the ground.

Do you buy your fruit and vegetables from local or organic markets, or do you grow your own? How do the shapes and sizes vary to the pieces you'd find in a supermarket?

Share your photos of ugly fruit and tell us where you bought or grew it.

We'll add a selection of the best images and stories to a gallery on the site.
