‘Ugh you’re one of THOSE customers’: Woman’s rug from Costco gets slime on it. Then she returns it

When it comes to returning purchased products, there’s no one who who does it better than Costco. At least, that’s according to its members who tout the warehouse club’s extremely generous return policy. However, is everyone on board with its leniency–and do shoppers go too far?

In a viral TikTok, Evelyn Juarez (@evelynjuarezofficial) records herself arriving at Costco to return an item. She pulls out a rug, which she said is stained with slime, from her truck and places it on the cart. Evelyn walks into the store, trying to see if they will give her “a new carpet.”

“I’m kind of embarrassed, I honestly was gonna just throw it away,” Evelyn says. “But one of my friends was like, they will give you a new one if you take it back.”

So that’s what Evelyn did.

As she hands the rug and her membership card to the worker at the returns desk, he asks what’s wrong with it. Evelyn explains it has a stain she couldn’t take off, to which he replies, “That’s fine.”

The result?

“They gave me a full refund,” Evelyn says as she walks out of the store, excited with her win.

People are side-eyeing her

While Evelyn may have been happy with her win, not everyone shared in her joy. Many criticized her for being the type of customer to return items that have gotten genuine use out of them.

“Ugh you’re one of THOSE customers,” a top comment read. Another wrote, “This is embarrassing for you.”

A third user said the fault lay with Evelyn for user error.

“I understand using the lifetime warranty if the rug came defective but if you the one who stained it why return it . That’s so . . . Smh,” they said.

Several others came to Evelyn’s defense, however, stating she did nothing wrong.

“Costco does not care so why do y’all?” one asked. “She pays her membership fee and that’s one of the perks.”

Costco and its famous return policy

Costco has often made headlines for its generous return policy for the past few years. Several TikTokers have gone viral for filming their unconventional returns–and gotten flamed online for it. In other instances, TikTokers have caught these shoppers and blasted them online. For example, in one story the Mary Sue covered, a man films another shopper returning a used hot tub that was filthy and still inflated. In another, a woman catches a man returning dead flowers. One shopper was even gently scolded by a Costco member after he returned a bag of chips for no reason other than that he bought them by mistake.

Costco’s return policy states it’s a “100% risk-free guarantee.” You can return almost any product for its purchase price, with the exception of alcohol, electronics, diamonds, gift cards, and custom products.
