CHANDIGARH: Members of Panjab University Teachers Association (Puta) on Monday held a three-hour-long dharna in front of the vice-chancellor’s office on a call given by PFUCTO in support of their demands to implement 7th UGC pay-scales and withdrawal of the decision of delinking of teachers’ grades from UGC pay scales.
Dr Mritunjay Kumar, president, Puta, while addressing the protesting teachers rued the fact that the required notification to implement the 7th UGC pay scales has not been issued despite the assurance given by education minister Pargat Singh and principal secretary, higher education, Krishan Kumar. The minister had himself visited the dharna site on October 19 and chain hunger Strike had been suspended by PFUCTO after the minister agreed to their demand inprinciple. “It is unfortunate that teachers are being forced to go into the protest mode again when the all other states have implemented the new UGC pay-scales ,” Kumar said.
