Uganda to be added to list of mandatory quarantine countries

Uganda is being added to the list of countries from which travellers must enter mandatory hotel quarantine.

Health Minister Stephen Donnelly tonight announced his intention to add the African country to the list of designated States.

People arriving to Ireland who have been in or went through Uganda in the previous 14 days must enter quarantine, according to the latest rules.

Uganda will soon be included on the booking system for quarantine, with passengers from Uganda entering quarantine starting from 4am on Wednesday, June 16.

It is a legal requirement that all travellers to Ireland must have a negative or ‘not detected’ result from a COVID-19 RT-PCR test carried out no more than 72 hours before arrival to Ireland.

It is also a legal requirement that those from non-designated countries observe 14 days of home quarantine. This can only be shortened if you receive a not-detected RT-PCR test result taken no less than five days after arrival. Testing is free and can be booked via www.gov.ie/test.

M eanwhile, the Government added: "Due to concerns about the new variant of Covid-19, people travelling from Great Britain are strongly advised to avail of free testing five days after arrival in Ireland, and to strictly adhere to the legal requirements for home quarantine."
