UGA WR George Pickens named as 2020 breakout player by Athlon Sports

In Athlon Sports’ 2020 college football preview magazine, the publication listed Georgia sophomore wide receiver George Pickens as one of 15 breakout players for the upcoming season.

I’d argue that Pickens already had his breakout season in 2019 as a true freshman, hauling in 49 catches for 727 yards and eight touchdowns.

He made things look easy out there last year after coming to UGA as a five-star receiver out of Hoover, Alabama.

With Lawrence Cager now in the NFL, Pickens should be Jamie Newman’s No. 1 target on each play.

From Athlon:

“Pickens paced the Georgia offense in receptions (49), receiving yards (727), and touchdown catches (eight) as a true freshman in 2019. The addition of Wake Forest transfer Jamie Newman alleviates concerns under center, and new offensive coordinator Todd Monken won’t be afraid to open up the passing game. Pickens should be in for a huge 2020 season.”

Athlon also has Pickens on the preseason all-SEC second team.
