UGA Twitter reacts to CFP rankings release

The College Football Playoff Committee released a somewhat surprising top 25 rankings last night. The Georgia Bulldogs check in at number six. The Dawgs are the highest ranked one-loss team. The committee commented on why the Bulldogs were the highest one-loss team: the strength of their schedule and their ranked wins over Notre Dame and Florida.

The most shocking development of the rankings is that the committee ranked the defending national champion Clemson Tigers fifth. The Tigers came in behind first-ranked Ohio State, second-ranked LSU, third-ranked Alabama, and fourth-ranked Penn State. Clemson is playing in an unusually weak ACC this season. In the end, it won’t matter if the Tigers go undefeated, then they’re guaranteed a playoff berth. This is because LSU and Alabama play this week and Penn State and Ohio State play each other in a couple weeks.

The committee is tasked with a nearly impossible task…with that being said I thought tonights rankings were about as good as you could hope for

Committee kind of contradicted itself with Bama/Clemson/Penn State. Bama and Clemson both power rate higher and would be favored over PSU, but PSU has better resume wins than either. If Penn St is above Clemson, why not ahead of Bama too…

That's why the committee did this. Gives lip service to putting Clemson outside top 4 due to a weak schedule but knows the Tigers will win out and today's top 4 will cannibalize each other.

Coaches will never admit this but I often wonder if the football coaches around the country genuinely trust the CFP committee. I know coaches have to leave when their teams are discussed but you can’t convince me Scott Stricklin wants to see UGA in CFP.

Should the playoff be expanded? I believe the ideal number of teams would be six.
