UGA’s Jake Fromm is PFF’s 3rd rated QB in the SEC — you won’t believe one QB he’s behind

Georgia fans won’t be shocked to see Tua Tagovailoa ahead of Jake Fromm in PFF’s highest graded 2018 SEC quarterbacks. But Tennessee QB Jarrett Guarantano being rated ahead of Jake Fromm is surprising to say the least.

A rating like this shows some of the flaws in PFF’s grading system. Guarantano finished 2019 with 12 TDs and 3 INTs, which isn’t bad efficiency. He took care of the football.

Jake Fromm had 30 TDs and 6 INTs in 2019. He had one bad performance at LSU. Outside of that Fromm was solid throughout the season and didn’t put up clunkers like Guarantano did at Vanderbilt and vs. Florida. Fromm also lead his team to bowl eligibility, unlike Guarantano. That has to count for something.

Fromm is projected to be a first round pick in 2020 NFL Draft and Guarantano is not. Sure, Fromm does have a better supporting cast, but that does not entirely contribute to why he played better against Vanderbilt, Florida, and everybody else.
