UGA’s Brian Herrien tweets about why stars don’t matter

Georgia Bulldog RB Brian Herrien tweeted about his recruitment process and why the “star” system is overrated. Herrien will battle for carries behind D’Andre Swift in 2019 after being an unheralded recruit. Here’s what Herrien tweeted:

I didn’t have 3 or 4 or 5 stars nor did I care to get them, or attend those 247/ rivals, opening camps, I played on my football team and made it to Georgia with 0 stars, after I signed to Georgia they put me on rivals and gave me 3 stars…stars & camps don’t matter .💯

Herrien’s tweet shows how under-the-radar prospects still have a chance to make an impact on the college level. Recruiting services that assign a prospect stars don’t determine if that prospect succeeds in college.

Stars don’t matter the day a recruit steps on to campus. It’s interesting to hear that services will give players stars for committing to a powerhouse school. In defense of recruiting services, there’s so many high school players that it’s impossible to keep track of all of them. The high-caliber recruit camps aren’t make or break for future college football players, but they give elite high school prospects a chance to play against the best of the best. A challenge is a welcome opportunity for most elite recruits.
