UGA heavily favored in season opener vs Vanderbilt

On Tuesday, betting website BetOnline.ag released odds for early season matchups for some of college football’s biggest powerhouses.

One of the games mentioned by the site was the opening game of the season for the Georgia Bulldogs, who will travel to Nashville to take on the Vanderbilt Commodores to open the season on Aug. 31.

The online sportsbook currently has the Dawgs listed as 24.5-point favorites in that contest. While this may seem like a pretty large disparity for an in-conference matchup, there are some reasons that may explain the predicted wide gap between the two teams.

Vanderbilt is historically one of the worst, if not the worst, team in the SEC, and it no longer hast last season’s quarterback Kyle Shurmur or several key defensive pieces from previous rosters. Georgia, meanwhile, is a consensus top-five team in the country and has championship aspirations this season.

Georgia had no problem handling the Commodores last year, routing them 41-13 in Athens.
