You won’t believe how overrated Tennessee is in ESPN’s FPI

Georgia Bulldog fans should have no issue with where they check in on ESPN’s FPI. With the Bulldogs checking at at number three, Georgia looks to be among the top teams in the country once again. Georgia’s season is projected to come down to the SEC Title game: if the Dawgs win the SEC they’ll make the College Football Playoff. Should UGA fall to Alabama in the SEC Championship, then it must to be their only loss if the Bulldogs want a shot at the playoffs.

In 2019, Georgia will face at least seven teams in the preseason ESPN FPI poll. None of these seven teams is ranked more shockingly than Tennessee, who checks in at number 15. After not making a bowl game last season, both the Vols and the Florida State Seminoles should not be ranked over Texas.

These rankings show the flaws of FPI. FPI is also crazy to have Ohio State so low at 13th. Ohio State and Tennessee are a completely different caliber of teams and should not be ranked near each other. College football fans should expect the preseason media polls to be quite different from ESPN’s FPI.
