Washington DC Police

Following the tragic death of a student at the University of Georgia, the community is reeling with shock and grief. The victim, identified as Riley, was described by her family as an amazing individual with a deep love for the Lord. Her untimely passing has left many devastated and fearful.

Riley was fatally attacked near the intramural fields on the UGA campus while out for a run, a popular spot for jogging and exercise. The incident has shaken the sense of security in the area, as it was unexpected and tragic.

The suspect, 26-year-old Jose Antonio Iberra, who is in the U.S. illegally, has been arrested and faces multiple charges including malice murder, kidnapping, and aggravated assault in connection to Riley's death. The cause of Riley's death was determined to be blunt force trauma, with official autopsy results pending.

Further complicating the situation, Iberra's brother was also arrested for possessing a fake green card during the investigation. It was revealed that he had used the fake document to secure a job on campus as a dining hall dishwasher, leading to his subsequent termination.

In response to the tragedy, the UGA community is coming together to honor Riley's memory. A vigil is scheduled for tomorrow, and her funeral is set to take place in her hometown of Woodstock, Georgia next Friday. Additionally, a memorial fundraiser has already raised over $95,000 in support of Riley's family.

As the community grapples with the loss of a beloved member, students are preparing to return to classes with heavy hearts. The outpouring of support and generosity in the wake of this tragedy serves as a testament to the impact Riley had on those around her.
