UGA basketball rises in recruiting rankings after landing Sahvir Wheeler

The Georgia men’s basketball program picked up a huge commitment on Monday from 4-star point guard Sahvir Wheeler.

The Houston Christian High School player ranked No. 94 in the nation and No. 6 at his position chose the Bulldogs over the Iowa State Cyclones.

Wheeler was originally committed to Coach Billy Kennedy at Texas A&M but received a release on his letter of intent when the Aggies parted ways with Kennedy.

After adding the four-star point guard to its class, Georgia now ranks No. 7 overall in the 2019 recruiting rankings. catapulting ahead of rival Florida at No. 8.

Earlier in the afternoon, 247 Sports released its final player rankings for this year’s class. To Bulldog fans’ delight, the versatile five-star Anthony Edwards was bumped up to No. 1 in the nation ahead of Memphis’ James Wiseman and North Carolina’s Cole Anthony after drawing comparisons to NBA MVP James Harden of the Houston Rockets.

In addition, Coach Tom Crean also received a pick up last week from Donnell Gresham, a Northeastern University graduate transfer who averaged 9.7 points per game last season.
