UGA Basketball Releases Non-Conference Schedule

On Tuesday, July 9, the University of Georgia Bulldogs basketball team released the non-conference schedule for the 2019-2020 season. The non-conference part of the schedule is highlighted by Georgia’s trip to Hawaii in the loaded Maui Invitational, trips to Arizona State and Memphis, and the annual rivalry with Georgia Tech, this year in Athens. UGA will have 8 home games out of the 13 games scheduled, with the remaining balance being the 3 games in Maui and the aforementioned trips to Tempe and Memphis.

The Hoop Dawgs begin the 2nd year of Tom Crean’s reign and the first (and probably only) year of Anthony Edwards on Tuesday, November 5th against Western Carolina in Stegeman Coliseum, and should be able to ease into the year with games against The Citadel on November 12 and Delaware State on November 15, both in Athens.

For the first time in several years, Georgia Tech will visit Athens when students are in session, as the Jackets will visit the Steg on Wednesday, November 20. This is followed by the Maui Invitational, with a field consisting of BYU, Chaminade, Dayton, Kansas, Michigan State, UCLA, and Virginia Tech. Following Maui, UGA will host NC Central on December 4 before breaking for final exams.

After finals, UGA travels to Arizona State on December 14 and will host SMU (December 20) and Georgia Southern (December 23) in Athens before Christmas. After Christmas, Austin Peay will come to Stegeman on December 30, and UGA will wrap up non-conference with a star-studded matchup January 4 against Memphis, as Anthony Edwards will get to face off against other top-rated recruits James Wiseman and Precious Achiuwa in what appears to be a game destined for national TV.

The Memphis game is a part of a new scheduling alliance between the SEC and American, which means Georgia will not take part in the SEC-Big 12 Challenge this year. Although UGA will not participate in the Big 12 challenge the next two years, Memphis will make the return trip to Athens in the 2020-21 season.

With this announcement, all of Georgia’s opponents have been officially announced with the SEC matchups being revealed on May 29th. The bracket for the Maui Invitational and dates for the SEC games will be announced at a later date. As of today, Georgia is 119 days away from tipping off the season and you can follow all the basketball news here at UGA Wire!
