UGA baseball stays put in latest poll after salvaging Kentucky series

The Georgia baseball team came into the week riding high, having won 12 of its last 13 games including a sold-out series over LSU.

However, the week did not start as perfectly as planned, with the Bulldogs going 1-2 from Tuesday to Friday before finishing the week at 2-2 Saturday.

Georgia dropped its first of three games to rival Georgia Tech (19-9) on Tuesday in a rain-shortened, soggy 11-2 loss. The Dawgs had a quick turnaround, opening their series at Kentucky (16-12) in Lexington n Thursday.

Georgia took game one from the Wildcats 7-3 before falling 5-0 Friday. The rubber match of the series was moved up to an early morning start Saturday thanks to inclement weather but the Dawgs were able to squeeze out a victory in extra innings, 10-8.

Now 23-5, 7-2 in SEC play, Georgia still finds itself in a great position entering April. The Bulldogs have won their first three SEC series and have a chance to get revenge on Georgia Tech two more times.

Up next for Coach Scott Stricklin’s bunch are the first game of a home and home series with Clemson (22-6) this Tuesday, a makeup game at Kennesaw State (15-14) Wednesday and a three-game weekend duel against Vanderbilt (22-6) in Athens.

Tickets for the contests with the Commodores have already sold out, making it the second straight SEC series to sell out this season at Foley Field.

As it stands, the Bulldogs still sit atop the SEC East with Vanderbilt trailing by just one game entering this crucial week.  If all goes well, Georgia could find itself at No. 1 in the nation by next Monday.
