UFC stars' tweets praising Conor McGregor which now look very awkward

Tweets from three fighters who praised Conor McGregor now look very awkward after they became embroiled in spats with the UFC star.

Since breaking his leg against Dustin Poirier last July, McGregor has become embroiled in several Twitter feuds with past and present fighters.

The former two-weight champion has been limited to weight training and hitting pads since his injury but will return to full training next month ahead of his summer return.

In one of the biggest UFC rivalries of all time, McGregor fought undefeated lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 228 in 2018.

Their feud got ugly in the build up to the fight as McGregor was arrested for throwing a dolly through a bus window of which Nurmagomedov was on.

But it was Nurmagomedov who got the last laugh as he tapped out McGregor in a fight that will forever be overshadowed by a post-fight brawl which took place in the cage.

A tweet from Nurmagomedov four years before their fight would resurface in which he posed with McGregor after the Irishman knocked out Dustin Poirier at UFC 178.

"With Conor McGregor after his unbelievable victory in UFC 178, dangerous kid," the tweet from Nurmagomedov read.

McGregor labelled now-retired UFC champion Henry Cejudo a "fart" on Twitter earlier this year after the American mocked him for punching an old man in a Dublin pub.

Cejudo tried to give McGregor advice on a recent training video, only for McGregor to furiously label him a "fat midget novice" in a video of him holding pads for Bellator featherweight Cris Cyborg.

An old tweet from 'Triple C' then resurfaced in which he praised McGregor for becoming the first two-weight champion in UFC history.

"[Conor McGregor] walks his talk. #greatestofalltime," Cejudo wrote after McGregor knocked out Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 in 2016.

Nurmagomedov's teammate and yet another former two-weight champion, Daniel Cormier, criticised McGregor for his tweets directed at Nurmagomedov's late father Abulmanap last year.

Cormier thought McGregor's tweets were a "cry for help", in which the Irishman later used Cormier's comments against him and accused him of being drunk whilst on commentary duty for the UFC.

A tweet from Cormier would later resurface after the row in which he praised McGregor for his performance against Floyd Mayweather in 2017.

"[Conor McGregor] u are the man brother!! U fought the best of our time in his game and fought like a champ. We are all proud of you. DC," he wrote to McGregor after the fight.
