UFC star Tecia Torres suspended indefinitely after losing latest fight

Tecia Torres has been handed an indefinite suspension after her loss to Mackenzie Dern at UFC 273 last weekend.

The Florida State Boxing Commission suspended 14 fighters who competed on the pay-per-view card, but top-ranked strawweight Torres was the only fighter to receive an indefinite suspension. Torres went three rounds with Mackenzie Dern on the main card in a back and forth fight. One judge scored it in favour of 'Tiny Tornado', whilst the other two had it for Dern which gave the Brazilian a split decision win.

Unlike most other state athletic commissions, Florida's commission doesn't release the nature of the suspensions. It's unclear why Torres was suspended indefinitely. Reflecting on her loss after the fight, Torres wrote: "50 fights in. Between my amateur & professional Kickboxing, Muay Thai, and MMA career I’ve hit fight #50. Also my 15th fight with the UFC.

"I respected Mackenzie’s ground game and hesitated more than I should have. I do feel I was the victor, nonetheless it was an honour to share the octagon with Mackenzie Dern. I’m sure we will see one another in the future. Congrats Chica!

"I went “toe to toe” with a multiple world champion black belt and with her best arsenal (jiu-jitsu) I was able to withstand and defend, not many women would have made it out of round 2. There is a reason I’ve been in this fight game for so long."

"I truly believe I was born for this. I live to fight another fight. I will be back with more intensity and skill on the next! Until then I will enjoy some family time and great 115 matchups in the coming months!

Torres has maintained her No.7 ranking at 115-pounds after the loss whilst Dern has moved up to No.4 in the division. The loss for Torres snapped a three-fight winning streak.

Elsewhere on the list of suspensions for the UFC 273 event, The Korean Zombie absorbed 153 strikes in his knockout loss to Alexander Volkanovski but was only handed a 14-day suspension.

Khamzat Chimaev and Gilbert Burns put on a Fight of the Year contender at the event, with Chimaev receiving a 30-day suspension whilst Burns was handed no suspension by the Florida Commission.
