UFC star Conor McGregor says his next fight will be in a boxing ring

Conor Mcgregor's next fight will not happen in the Octagon, the Lightweight champ has revealed.

Speaking at a widely publicised pay-per-view event in Manchester last night, the Notorious one laid out his grand scheme for renowned MMA journalist Ariel Helwani - it's one that involves a retired boxer and a whole pile of cash.

Floyd Mayweather is firmly in the cross-hairs of the MMA superstar who believes he can make the fight happen with or without the backing of the UFC.

“I believe the next time I step into the combat arena it will be through the ropes wearing 10 or 8 ounce gloves ,” he explained to Helwani.

“I can make this fight without the UFC, but I think it’s smoother if we’re all involved... Everyone’s got to know their place. There’s Mayweather promotions, there’s the UFC and now there’s the newly-formed McGregor Promotions.”

Mayweather finished his boxing career with a stunning record of 49-0 and is counted among the greatest to ever step foot in a boxing ring, many believe that should a cross over bout take place, Mayweather would likely embarrass McGregor.

When asked about old-school boxing guys’ laughing at his chance to win, McGregor replied: “I’m hearing the same laughter I heard back at the very start of my career and that motivates me.”

He is certain that this fight will absolutely happen within the next year or so, writes the Irish Mirror.

He said: “I’m glad there was an offer made... If Manny and Floyd did half a million, then with the cross between sports and both of us this should be the first billion dollar fight.”

Mayweather echoed McGregor's claims - replying ringside at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, ahead of Carl Frampton’s featherweight championship boxing bout against Leo Santa Cruz, he believes he can 'get his number'.
