UFC’s Kevin Lee once needed to have boiling water poured on him during a scary weight cut

Kevin Lee will square off against former UFC lightweight champ Rafael dos Anjos in Saturday’s main even at UFC Rochester.

This fight, however, will be at 170 pounds, as Lee is moving up a weight class to welterweight for the the first time in his career.

Which is great, because it means his weight cut will be a lot easier and safer.

Lee told our friends at MMA Junkie this week about a bad weight cut he had before his fight with Tony Ferguson at UFC 216, a fight Lee lost via third-round submission.

That fight was for the interim lightweight (155 pounds) title and the weight cut was a brutal one for Lee. He was battling and infection which made it harder for him to lose 20 pounds (20 pounds!) in 24 hours so his team put him in a tub and used boiling water to raise his body temperature:

That sounded awful. And incredibly scary.

Thankfully he made it through that and even though he lost the fight, it helped him make the move to 170 pounds.
