Chad Mendes, the No. 4 ranked featherweight in the UFC, has been suspended for two years by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency after testing positive for a banned substance.
The positive test for GHRP-6 (Growth Hormone-Releasing Hexapeptide) occurred during an out-of-competition urine test on May 17, 2016.
Mendes' ban is retroactive to June 10, the date he first received a provisional suspension.
Mendes last fought on Dec. 11, 2015, when he was knocked out in the first round by Frankie Edgar. Mendes (17-4) has lost three of his last four fights, including a title shot against then champion Jose Aldo in 2014, and a late-notice interim title shot against Conor McGregor in July 2015.
Mendes will be 33 years old after his suspension is complete.
