UFC president Dana White would fear "first death in MMA" amid fight talk

Dana White has admitted he would fear a death in the UFC if Amanda Nunes were to face the previous opponents of two-time PFL champion Kayla Harrison.

Nunes is the leading pound-for-pound female fighter in the world and has defeated the likes of Holly Holm and Ronda Rousey during her illustrious career.

And she has faced recent comparisons to rising star Harrison who is currently undefeated under the PFL banner with 12 professional victories.

But White would have feared the worst if Nunes had taken on the same fighters as her cross-promotional rival.

White told Yahoo Sports : "Kayla Harrison hasn’t fought anybody yet. She hasn’t fought anybody. Let me put Amanda Nunes in with the girls that she's fought, might be the first death in MMA, okay?

"And listen, I like her. I got nothing against her. But come on, let’s be honest."

Harrison has earned huge praise for her time in the PFL having won the women's lightweight tournament twice in both 2019 and 2021.

She also has a background in judo and won Olympic gold medals at London 2012 and Rio 2016.

But the American is currently a free agent having made her last contracted appearance with the PFL in a routine second-round victory over Taylor Guardado.

Meanwhile Nunes has maintained her status as one of the greatest female fighters of all time, with her 12-fight win streak dating back to March 2015.

And the Brazilian will return to action on a bumper UFC 269 bill in December where she will defend her bantamweight title against Julianna Pena.

Nunes is Harrison's teammate on the highly-coveted American Top Team and the owner Dan Lambert has admitted he would like to "avoid" a showdown any time soon.

"I’d do everything I could to avoid it," Lambert told the MMA Hour about Nunes vs. Harrison. "I don’t like when our people fight.

Who would win in a potential bout? Amanda Nunes or Kayla Harrison? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

"Usually when you go into a fight you’ve got at least a 50-50 of leaving happy or sad. Put two of our people against each other, especially in such a high stakes fight, you’ve got a 100 percent chance of leaving feeling pretty bad for somebody.

“But hey, sometimes s*** happens. If it were to happen, we’d separate the training, pick out training partners and coaches that would help each and may the best man or woman win.”

Despite White's views on the fight there is likely to be interest from several parties for Harrison's signature, including from the UFC and Bellator as her profile continues to rise.

And Nunes could also be interested in the fight with her recent opposition proving no match for her power and advanced skillset.

The 'Lioness' has already cemented her name in the history books in the UFC, being the only UFC fighter to successfully defend two belts whilst actively holding both.

But she has demanded more significant financial reward on occasion and has even called out TV personality Kim Kardashian.
