UFC on ESPN 56 live results: Play-by-play of every fight from St. Louis

UFC on ESPN 56 took place Saturday, and MMA Junkie provided the live play-by-play and official results. UFC on ESPN 56 (ESPN/ESPN+) took place at Enterprise Center in St. Louis.

Derrick Lewis (28-12 MMA, 19-10 UFC), a two-time heavyweight title challenger, stopped Rodrigo Nascimento (11-2 MMA, 4-2 UFC) in the main event. In the co-feature, Joaquin Buckley (19-6 MMA, 9-4 UFC) defeated Nursulton Ruziboev (34-9-2 MMA, 2-1 UFC), who hadn’t lost a fight in more than four years, at welterweight.

JJ Aldrich vs. Veronica Hardy

Round 1 -Good jabs from both fighters. Aldrich with a couple left. A couple of good leg kicks land for Hardy. Aldrich closes the distance and presses Hardy against the cage. Hardy gets out shortly after and back to striking. Good combo by Hardy, but Aldrich presses her against the cage. Aldrich is trying to drag the fight to the ground, but Hardy is defending well. Good left by Hardy on the break. Leg kick by Hardy. Aldrich is bleeding from her nose. Good combo by Hardy, the best of the fight so far. The bell rings.

Round 2 – Aldrich back with the pressure, but so far she’s getting out struck. Hardy not only seems to be more effective on the feet, but also packs more speed and power behind her shots. Good combo by Hardy as looks to close the distance. Clean one, two by Aldrich. Three minutes left. Aldrich with a nice knee as they briefly clinch. Aldrich close the distance and presses Hardy agaisnt the cage. Just control, no damage here from Aldrich. One minute left. Good control here by Aldrich. Hardy breaks free. Good leg kick by Hardy. Round 3 – Hardy comes out more aggressive here. Again, the same dynamic: Hardy stays on the outside countering and Aldrich presses. Good spinning back kick to the body by Aldrich. Oh! Aldrich drops Hardy, but Hardy immediately gets a reverse triangle. Aldrich seems to be fine, but she’s trapped. Aldrich on top, still in the reverse triangle. Aldrich gets out and she’s on side control. Two minutes left. Hardy recovers guard, but loses it. Aldrich working from side control, but little damage being done. Hardy gets out in the final five seconds. The bell rings.

Round 1 – Johnson looking to stay on the outside while Hadley presses. Johnson with a couple of leg kicks. Good pressure by Hadley. So far he’s throwing, but has yet to land clean. Hadley shoots, fails, but ends up pressing Johnson against the cage. Three minutes left. Johnson breaks free. The two trade leg kicks. Good left by Hadley. One minute left. Johnson not trowing much. Good body shot by Johnson. The bell rings.

Round 2 – Johnson comes out aggressive here, connects a solid combo. Johnson is not backing up nearly as much. Good body shot by Hadley. Leg kick by Johnson. Jab by Johnson. He’s definitely more effective when he’s moving forward. More lge kicks from Johnson. Hadley with some of his own. Two minutes left. Johnson got his timing down and has upped his offense. Round 3 – Hadley now back with the pressure. He presses Johnson against the cage and partially takes his back while standing against the cage. Hadley has one hook in and is looking to spin a round to put in the other one. Johnson escapes. Johnson pressuring here. Good jabs by Johnson. Nice right by Johnson! Hadley shoots, but Johnson stuffs the takedown attempt. Two minutes left. Body kick by Johnson. And Hadley with a body shot. Hadley shoots and presses Johnson against the cage briefly. Round 1 – Huge height difference between Goff and Waters. Waters connecting early here on Goff. Goff is looking to cut the distance on Waters. Goff has connected with many leg kicks at this point. He shoots and presses Waters against the cage. Three minutes left. Not much going on here. Oh! Goff gets a brief takedown, but Waters right back up. Big straight right by Waters. Goff is taking a lot of damage as he looks to close the distance. Goff catches a kick of Waters and takes him down. They scramble! Oh! Waters connects with a big illegal knee on Goff. The referee doesn’t do anything about it. Oh! They’re brawling now. Goff rocks Waters, but then Waters rocks Goff. The bell rings. What a round.

Round 2 – Again, Goff back to pressuring Waters. Waters looks a bit tired. Good hook by Waters. What a chin on Goff. They both land jabs. It seems Waters is landing the more accurate shots, but Goff is landing the harder shots. Oh! They both connect with nasty combinations. Hard one, two by Waters. Goff shoots and presses Waters against the cage. Two minutes left. Good counter right by Goff. Oh! Brutal series of right hands by Waters. Goff shoots, but gets caught in a standing-guillotine. Round 3 – What fight. Goff pressing Waters relentlessly here. Goff presses Waters against the cage. He’s looking for a takedown, but having trouble. Control, but no damage by Goff. The crowd is booing. The referee is calling for more action. The referee breaks the action and resets them in the middle of the cage. Two minutes left. Leg kicks by Goff. Right hand connects for Waters. Goff pressuring, but getting tagged. Oh! Nasty right hand connects for Goff! Goff is going for it. They’re trading big. Good hots by Goff. The bell rings. Round 1 – A couple of good lefts connect for Hooper. Borshchev putting on the pressure here. Oh! Another huge left connects and drops Borshchev! Hooper jumps on him. He takes Borshchev’s back. He’s now on mount. Non-Stop shots from Hooper. Borshchev just surviving. Hooper now takes the back of Borshchev. Hooper landing some shots. He switches to mount. More ground-and-pound by Hooper. Nasty elbow from Hooper. Borshchev recovers half guard. Mount again for Hooper. They’re battling for positions. They get into a scramble! Hooper ends on bottom, but he’s got both a reverse triangle and a toe-hold. Thirty seconds left. Hooper gets top position again and maintains the reverse triangle. The bell rings.

Round 2 – Hooper immediately shoots and gets the takedown. Hooper quickly moves to mount and begins to drop shots. What a showing by Hooper, he’s putting on a beating on Borshchev. Insane. More ground-and-pound by Hopper. Man, Borshchev is tough. He’s taking a bad beating here. More shots by Hooper. They’re adding up. The referee is telling him to fight back. Big elbow by Hooper. Joaquin Buckley vs. Nursulton Ruziboev

Round 1 – Buckley comes out agressive, immediately pressuring Ruziboev. The crowd really getting behind the local Buckley. Both a swining big, but neither has landed clean. Big miss by Buckley. Ruziboev goes for a flying knee, but doesn’t fully connect and Buckley takes him down. Buckley inside Ruziboev’s guard. Halfway through the round. Ruziboev is doing a good job at tying up Buckley. Ruziboev gets up! Oh! Ruziboev connects Buckley! Buckley takes down Ruziboev. He lets Ruziboev back up. It seems he’s recovered. Leg kick by Buckley. Ruziboev walking down Buckley now, but not throwing much. The bell rings.

Round 2 – Good straight right by Ruziboev! Buckley again takes down Ruziboev. After a few seconds, Ruziboev gets up. Buckley seems to be having an issue landing on Ruziboev, who’s much taller. Big swings by both fighters, but neither connect. Ruziboev looking to set up a knee to the head. Push kick by Buckley. Two minutes left. Buckley connects on his way in and then takes down Ruziboev. Buckley on side control. Some shots by Buckley. Ruziboev ties an armbar, but Buckley survives and stays on top position until the bell.
