UFC on ESPN 4 results: Alexander Hernandez gets decision nod over Francisco Trinaldo

Alexander Hernandez rebounded from his first UFC loss when he outpointed Francisco Trinaldo on the scorecards Saturday at UFC on ESPN 4.

After experiencing a setback against Donald Cerrone earlier this year, Hernandez (11-2 MMA, 3-1 UFC) took on another far more experienced opponent in Brazil’s Trinaldo (23-7 MMA, 13-6 UFC). It wasn’t the most exciting affair, but in the end his work was deemed more efficient by the judges and he got the unanimous decision.

“I’ll be the first to say that fight could’ve gone either way,” Hernandez said in his post-fight interview with Jon Anik.

The lightweight bout was part of the main card, which aired on ESPN from AT&T Center in San Antonio.

There was little action to speak of in the first round of the fight. Less than 20 total significant strikes were landed over the course of the opening frame, with most of them being kick attempts from the outside and single punches at a time.

It was much of the same in the second. Both sides were reluctant to commit to anything big, and despite Hernandez being the hometown fighter, there was still some restlessness from the crowd because of the lack of meaningful offense.

Going into the third round, it was clear the fight was close. The statistics were relatively even, and it seemed as though the win was up for grabs. Neither man put it all on the table, though, and were content trading single shots at a time in hopes of putting the other out. It never happened, though, after time expired, NAME left with the nod from the judges by scores of 30-27, 30-27 and 29-28.
