UFC on ESPN 32 results: Jake Collier runs through Chase Sherman for quick finish

Jake Collier prepared for a firefight against Chase Sherman, but the bout was over in less than three minutes.

At UFC on ESPN 32, Collier (13-6 MMA, 5-5 UFC) submitted Sherman (15-9 MMA, 3-8 UFC) via rear-naked choke at 2:26 of Round 1. The heavyweight bout was the card’s co-main event at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. It aired on ESPN.

The fight started out, as every fight does, in the striking department. Both men landed punches, but when the fight hit the mat, it was all Collier. He mounted Sherman and landed brutal ground-and-pound before he swiftly submitted his fellow behemoth.

Collier, 33, moves to 2-2 in his most recent four since he moved to heavyweight. After a quick TKO loss to Tom Aspinall, Collier defeated Gian Villante. In his most recent fight prior to Saturday, Collier lost to Carlos Felipe via split decision at UFC 263.

As for Sherman, his losing skid extends to three. After his UFC release in 2018, he worked his way back to the promotion and re-signed in early 2020. After a win in his promotional return, Sherman lost back-to-back fights against Andrei Arlovski and Parker Porter prior to Saturday.
