UFC news: Nate Diaz distances himself from long-awaited grudge match with Dustin Poirier

Nate Diaz has distanced himself from suggestions he could fight long-term rival Dustin Poirier.

Speaking on Teddy Atlas’ podcast earlier this week, Poirier suggested he had spoken to UFC about a potential short-notice bout between the two and admitted he would take the fight were it to be offered.

“It’s a very short notice thing,” he said.

“Something I would hate to do is stack things against myself and take a fight on short notice, but, we’ll see what happens, man. I don’t want to give too much ‘cause I don’t know what I can say. No contract has been signed yet, but if this goes go through, I’m gonna take it. I said yes, now we’re waiting on him.”

The two rivals were due to square up inside the octagon as far back as September 2018 but nothing materialised.

Still, Diaz appeared to shoot down any prospect of it being booked.

Taking to Twitter, the 36-year-old aimed a jibe at both Poirier and lightweight champion Charles Oliveira.

“I just talked to the ufc I said wassup with the Dp fight I wanna fight asap but they said dustin sucks and they don’t want it sorry Dustin you suck hope to fight asap tho let’s do this ,” he wrote.

“Ps Olivera you suck too.”
