UFC fighter removed from Conor McGregor card for 'pretty amazing' security violation

Dana White has lifted the lid on the bizarre story behind Ottman Azaitar's expulsion from the UFC 257 card.

The undefeated lightweight was due to clash with Matt Trevola this weekend, when Conor McGregor returned to the octagon to face Dustin Poirier, but the fight was axed.

At the time of the announcement, which was made on Friday shortly after the official weigh-ins, no explanation was given for Azaitar being dropped from the showpiece event in Abu Dhabi.

But UFC supremo White later revealed the staggering details that led to his decision, while also confirming that the German-born fighter will no longer fight in his promotion.

He told BT Sport: "Yeah it's pretty amazing actually.

"So he and his team cut off their wristbands, gave them to somebody outside the bubble - I don't know how they even did it - that guy taped them and showed up here with a bag.

"He went into a room, shimmied across four balconies, went in his room, dropped the bag off, changed his clothes and left.

"When security tried to stop him he wouldn't stop either way and it's just bad. He's gone, he's no longer a UFC fighter. And he's not fighting."

He added: "One guy got inside the bubble, went in through a room and shimmied down four balconies, got in through his balcony and dropped off a bag of we don't know what.

"He changed his clothes and went back outside the bubble. We got everything on camera, we saw the whole thing and how it all went down and pulled his fight and cut him."

White also confirmed that Frevola would instead take on Arman Tsarukyan and added: "It worked out for him (Frevola). I'm happy for both the guys that we were able to get a fight."

Azaitar, who was born in Germany to Moroccan parents, leaves the UFC have secured 13 victories from his 13 bouts.

McGregor headlined the card at Fight Island in Abu Dhabi but was knocked out by old rival Dustin Poirier in the second round.
