The UFC heads to southern South America for Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 156. The event takes place at Antel Arena in Montevideo, Uruguay. The promotion has never visited Uruguay before.
In the headlining bout, UFC women’s flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko puts her title on the line against former Strikeforce and UFC women’s bantamweight title challenger Liz Carmouche.
Shevchenko’s first defense of the title took place in June when she starched Jessica Eye with a head kick in the second round of their contest. The scary knockout left Eye prone on the canvas for a long time. The stoppage will surely be in the running for best knockout of the year.
Carmouche is coming off a February decision win over Lucie Pudilova. Carmouche fell short in her previous title fights, losing both of those bouts via submission.
This fight is a rematch. Carmouche defeated Shevchenko by TKO in 2010. The doctor stoppage came as a result of a cut.
In the co-main event, rising welterweight prospect Vicente Luque puts his run of five straight stoppage wins on the line against hard-hitting Mike Perry. Luque, who is 9-2 with the UFC, has never gone the distance in a victory with the promotion.
