UFC fans were blown away by the ‘human MRI’ doctor’s mid-fight diagnosis

Roxanne Modafferi scored a monumental upset victory over formerly undefeated flyweight star Maycee Barber in the final prelim bout on the UFC 246 card on Saturday night, but Barber showed remarkable toughness to finish all three rounds after suffering what appeared to be a serious knee injury early in the second round.

Modafferi caught Barber with a light punch that shouldn’t have done much damage, but as Barber backed away her left knee buckled and she fell to the mat. Modafferi, who took control in the opening round to get ahead on the scorecard early, took advantage of Barber’s weakness and comfortably won the second round.

Prior to the start of the third round, a doctor entered the octagon to perform a quick examination on Barber’s injured knee – which stunned commentator Joe Rogan – and told the referee that had a “small partial ACL tear” and was fine to continue the fight.

Rogan joked that the doctor must have been a “human MRI” machine, and said that he had never seen a doctor interrupting to check such an injury before. UFC fighters and fans alike couldn’t believe it.
