UFC fans had questions about Khabib Nurmagomedov actually being stuck in Russia

At this point, it’s practically comical to expect Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson to ever fight in a UFC bout.

The two had been slated to fight four times since 2015 and saw all four of those meetings canceled. The fifth time was supposed to be the charm with Khabib and Ferguson set to headline UFC 249 on April 18.

But then a global pandemic happened … and is still happening. So, now the Khabib-Ferguson fight is likely off for a fifth time.

In an Instagram Live video on Monday, Khabib told fans that travel restrictions would prevent him from leaving Russia in order to make the fight — likely in the United Arab Emirates.

As countries look to limit the spread of the coronavirus, Russia shut down its borders, meaning that Khabib couldn’t leave. Still, that didn’t stop UFC fans from speculating that Khabib — who left the UAE for Russia in March — was just once again hoping to avoid a fight against Ferguson.
