UFC 298 play-by-play and live results

ANAHEIM, Calif. – UFC 298 takes place Saturday, and you can join us for live play-by-play and official results. UFC 298 (pay-per-view, ESPN, ESPN+) takes place at Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif.

In the main event, featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski (26-3 MMA, 13-2 UFC) takes on unbeaten challenger Ilia Topuria (14-0 MMA, 6-0 UFC). In the co-feature, Paulo Costa (14-2 MMA, 6-2 UFC) meets former middleweight champ Robert Whittaker (24-7 MMA, 15-5 UFC).

Andrea Lee vs. Miranda Maverick

Round 1 – Maverick quickly closes the distance here. She gets a body lock from the back, tries to take down Lee, but gets reversed. Lee is briafly on top, but Maverick gets back up. Now Lee controlling Maverick against the cage. They break free. Leg kick by Maverick followed by a left. Good leg kicks by Lee. Lee staying on the outside here.  Two minutes left. Oh! Big left by Maverick. Another one! Leg kick by Maverick. Maverick so far landing the bigger shots. Nice right now by Maverick. Body kick by Lee. One minute left. Maverick closes the distance and gets a takedown in the final seconds. She lands some ground-and-pound and the bell rings.

Round 2 – Again, Maverick closes the distance early and pins Lee against the cage. She gets the takedown. Three minutes left. Maverick moves to half guard. Some shots from top by Maverick. After a good amount of control, Lee is able to get back to her feet. Less than two minutes left. Good left hook by Maverick. Lee a little more aggressive with the kicks, but not landing anything meaningful. Leg kick by Maverick. Lee is bleeding from her nose. Good left by Lee. Round 1 – Both fighter very tentative so far. It looks like Woodburn is loading up. Oh! Head kick by Elliott! And Woodburn rocks him with a counter right! Elliott is hurt! Woodburn all over him. Elliott takes him down and gets the back. What a wild sequence. Elliott goring for the choke, but Woodburn defending well. Three minutes left. Good shots from top by Elliott. Two minutes left. Elliott still in control of the back. Elliott takes mount. Great control here. Good shots from Elliott. He now transitions to the back. The bell rings shortly after.

Round 2 – Woodburn looks tired. Oh! Both are brawling! Big shots from both. The action cools a bit now. Elliot staying on the outside, keeping mobile, while Woodburn looks to land a big shot. Elliott closes the distance and presses Woodburn against the cage. Good elbow by Elliott on  the break. They’re back to striking. Elliott goes for a head kick, it gets caught and Woodburn clinches him against the cage. Nice switch by Elliott. He now takes down Woodburn. Two minutes left. Elliot controlling from back mount. Round 3 – Same dynamic here. Elliott staying on the outside and picking his shots, while Woodburn presses and looks for a bomb. Elliott shoots and gets a takedown with ease. The crowd boos. Elliott gets up, but is being pressed against the cage by Woodburn. Woodburn working for a takedown. One minute left. Woodburn, likely down on the cards, just controlling. Solid jab by Quinlan. Two minutes left. Body kick by Quinlan. Quinlan is picking it up here. Clean left lands for Barlow. Oh! Big two-punch combo for Quinlan.  Very close fight. Rinya Nakamura vs. Carlos Vera

Round 1 – Good left hook by Nakamura. They scramble and Vera goes for a leg lock. More scrambling and Nakamura gets out and ends on top. Vera extremely active off his back, trying to set up submissions. Good shots from top by Nakamura. Three minutes left. Non-stop leg attacks by Vera. Three minutes left. Vera is relentless here on the ground. Good job by Nakamura for staying out of trouble and maintaining top position through all these scrambles. Man, non-stop scrambling here. The crowd boos even though there’s a lot of action going on. The bell rings.

Round 2 – Again, back to the ground with the same dynamic: Vera on his back trying to set up something and Nakamura with top position defending and sneaking in a shot here and there. Continuous scrambling here. Oh! Nakamura takes the back! Vera gets out. Nakamura on top. Not much going on in terms of damage. Nakamura ends on top.

Round 3 – Vera with several kicks to start the round. He’s mainly backing up and looking to counter, while Nakamura presses forward. Vera goes for a spinning head kick and slips and falls to the canvas. Nakamura follows him and ends on top. Vera gets up and Nakamura lands a good knee to the head.
