UFC 261 results as Kamaru Usman beats Jorge Masvidal and Chris Weidman snaps his leg against Uriah Hall

Kamaru Usman retained his welterweight belt and his undefeated UFC record with a brutal knockout of Jorge Masvidal in the second round of their main event bout in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The Nigerian Nightmare was facing Masvidal in a rematch at UFC 261 after winning their first fight via split decision nine months ago.

But this bout was ended in the second round when Usman knocked Masvidal unconscious with a huge right hand.

The champion landed more punches as Masvidal hit the canvas before referee Herb Dean stepped in to stop the fight.

"You all said you wanted violence... you're welcome," said Usman.

"No disrespect... I want to say thank you to my man Jorge. You elevated me, you made have to... it's been a while since I've been nervous before a fight but he elevated me.

"He made me go tot the workshop, I had to sharpen my tools to come out and put o a performance like that. I'm still getting better."

Masvisal added: "First time [I've been knocked out] in my career and it's front of my people, my family and my friends so it hurts.

"I've never been knocked out in 54 fights. Usman showed me something I didn't see in the first fight. I didn't see his power. I thought we were going to wrestle more I was ready to wrestle for 25 minutes.

"All the props in the world to him, he caught me by surprise and he has my number.

"There's nothing I can say but he won this fair and square."

Prior to the main event Rose Namajunas won back her Women's Strawweight World Championship with a brutal head kick and punches victory over Zhang Weili.

That came after Valentina Shevchenko eased to victory over Jessica Andrade to keep hold of her Flyweight Championship and set up a possible trilogy with Amanda Nunes.

Uriah Hall was victorious in unwanted circumstances as former Middleweight Champion Chris Weidman suffered a broken leg after just 17 seconds.

Anthony Smith was also a winner, beating Jimmy Crute via doctor stoppage between their first and second rounds, moving to 35 wins from 51 MMA bouts.
