Khabib Nurmagomedov explains skipping UFC 242 media day, talks his father and Dustin Poirier

ABU DHABI – Khabib Nurmagomedov finally spoke to reporters for the first time on UFC 242 fight week on Friday when following ceremonial weigh-ins he hosted a media scrum.

Lightweight champ Nurmagomedov (27-0 MMA, 11-0 UFC), who meets interim titleholder Dustin Poirier (25-5 MMA, 17-4 UFC) in a unification bout in Saturday’s main event, largely answered repeat questions for the more than 10-minute period.

“The Eagle” did address a number of topics, though, including an explanation of why he skipped media day on Thursday, his perspective on the importance of money and having his father as part of his corner team for the first time in his UFC career.

UFC 242 takes place at The Arena in Yas Island, Abu Dhabi. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FX and ESPN+/UFC Fight Pass.
