UFC 240: Arman Tsarukyan isn’t one of those call-people-out young fighters

EDMONTON – Arman Tsarukyan beat Olivier Aubin-Mercier with a unanimous decision Saturday on the main card at UFC 240 in Edmonton.

Take a look inside the fight with Tsarukyan, who picked up his first win in the UFC.

Result: Arman Tsarukyan def. Olivier Aubin-Mercier via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)
Updated records: Tsarukyan (14-2 MMA, 1-1 UFC), Aubin-Mercier (11-5 MMA, 7-5 UFC)
Key stat: Aubin-Mercier lost for the third straight fight, keeping him in the only skid of his career.

Tsarukyan on the fight’s key moment

“The game plan was to actually outwrestle him. I wanted to put pressure on him so he would open up in the striking later on in the rounds. I didn’t expect him to be as good of a wrestler as he was, so I had to adjust a bit during the fight. I was surprised by how good he was.”

Tsarukyan on making sure to get the ‘W’

“It was a victory and an OK fight. It definitely wasn’t my best performance. I wish I could have shown the fans more of my game, but I’m just happy to have the victory.”

Tsarukyan on what he wants next

“I’m not in a position to call guys out. I will take whoever they give me. I’m young and looking to move forward. So whoever they offer, I will welcome the challenge.”
